HISTORY

2004

David Lynch, John Hagelin & Bob Roth form the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education & World Peace

2005

In the Foundation’s first public awareness campaign, David tours college campuses to discuss and answer questions about “Consciousness, Creativity, and the Brain,” with Dr. Hagelin and brain researcher Dr. Fred Travis. They present the science behind meditation and how it enhances the creative process.

2006

Emerging from his experience during the college tour, David publishes Catching the Big Fish, in which he reveals secrets of his artistic method and the immense creative benefit he has gained from the practice of meditation.

2007

Desiring to reach bigger audiences with his message that “diving within really changes things for the good,” David joined forces with Donovan for 3 big events, free to the public, at the premiere cultural venues in America: Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the Kodak Theatre.

Responding to worldwide interest, David begins a 16-country tour, captivating audiences and holding press conferences in Israel, Italy, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, Portugal, and France.

2008

The first support for “Quiet Time” in schools provides TM at no cost to at-risk, inner-city middle school students. The results are dramatic and profound, affecting attendance, behavior, and grades.

David tours Brazil with Donovan, bringing the message of Catching the Big Fish to Latin American audiences. He meditates with thousands of at-risk students at Cidade de Meninos, and is seen throughout the continent on Globo TV.

The Foundation launches an initiative to bring the benefits of TM to Native Peoples. In Winnebago, Nebraska, working with elders of the Ho-Chunk tribe in conjunction with healthcare providers, research to assess the impact of TM practice on the rampant epidemic of diabetes is underway. Anecdotal experiences are very encouraging.

2009

National launch of “TM/Quiet Time for students at the “Change Begins Within” benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This historic performance brought Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr together on stage for the first time in 20 years.

David tours Russia and Ukraine, bringing his creative insights and his message about the benefits of TM to students and all citizens.

2010

Working with George and Harriet McDonald, the founders of The Doe Fund, the Foundation brings TM to the formerly homeless and incarcerated at “Ready, Willing, and Able” in Harlem, aiding them in rebuilding and achieving economic mobility.

In Los Angeles, DLF representatives meet with Dr. Lois Lee, the founder of Children of the Night, one of the most prominent and successful organizations in the nation addressing the needs of America’s sex-trafficked children. A program is started, offering TM to these children, to help them move past trauma and lead fulfilling, productive lives.

The David Lynch Foundation participates in a program for holistic rehabilitation with the Oregon Prison System. Over 2.4 million Americans are currently serving time—one out of every 100 adults––the highest incarceration rate of any country. The TM technique allows inmates to relieve symptoms of deeply rooted trauma that form the basis of criminal behavior. Key results include: more than a 30% reduction in recidivism rates; fewer rule infractions; decreased anxiety, depression, fatigue, and anger; increased spiritual well-being, optimism, and purposefulness.

Operation Warrior Wellness is launched to help bring relief to veterans and their families suffering from Post Traumatic Stress. Extensive peer-reviewed research already demonstrates that it reduces stress, anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, and heart disease; improves brain and cognitive functioning; and raises performance.
